Green Energy, Smart Cities and AI Recycling Take Centre Stage at Eco Expo Asia 2026

Eco Expo Asia 2026

Eco Expo Asia 2026 will bring environmental technology suppliers, government representatives, investors and corporate buyers to Hong Kong from 26–29 October 2026, with green transport, smart buildings, artificial intelligence and circular-economy solutions among the principal themes.

The 21st edition of the environmental trade fair will take place at AsiaWorld-Expo under the theme “Connecting the World for a Sustainable Future.” Organisers expect more than 340 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions, alongside approximately 200 representatives from government and industry organisations.

Eco Expo Asia is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, with Hong Kong’s Environment and Ecology Bureau serving as co-organiser.

Green Energy Solutions Move into the Spotlight

The Green Energy in Motion section will examine the transition towards lower-emission transport across the maritime, aviation and road-transport sectors.

Hong Kong-based renewable fuels producer EcoCeres is scheduled to exhibit sustainable aviation fuel and hydrotreated vegetable oil produced from waste-based feedstocks. Other exhibitors will introduce electric-vehicle charging equipment, fleet electrification systems and modular technologies designed to convert conventional vehicles into electric vehicles.

The programme comes as Asian governments and companies increase their focus on cleaner logistics, energy security and transport electrification. Similar developments are also shaping China’s battery industry, where rapid charging, battery safety and artificial intelligence were prominent themes at the World Power Battery Conference 2026.

Buyers assessing renewable fuels and electrification products should examine the relevant certifications, lifecycle-emissions calculations, charging standards and local infrastructure requirements rather than relying solely on headline emissions claims.

Start-ups Bring AI and Space Technology to Environmental Monitoring

Approximately 30 start-ups and university spin-offs are expected to participate in the fair’s Frontier Green Tech section.

Exhibits will cover environmental monitoring, emissions measurement, artificial intelligence, robotics and climate-data systems. Among them, Stellerus Technology will present MUSICO, a compact greenhouse-gas observatory that organisers say has been deployed aboard China’s Tiangong space station.

The technology is designed to support high-resolution monitoring of greenhouse gases and other atmospheric data. Such systems could help governments, researchers and companies improve emissions inventories and detect changes that conventional reporting methods may miss.

The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation will bring 11 start-ups to the exhibition, while a separate Hong Kong Pavilion will feature 19 local exhibitors. The HKSAR Government’s booth will involve 11 bureaux and departments, providing visitors with information about public environmental programmes and regulatory initiatives.

Smart Buildings Target Energy and Resource Efficiency

The Building for a Greener City theme will focus on technologies intended to reduce the environmental footprint of buildings and construction projects.

Solutions scheduled for display include systems that generate electricity from water flowing through building tanks and cooling infrastructure, as well as automated equipment for plastering and painting. Exhibitors claim that some of these construction robots can improve productivity while reducing material use, although buyers will need to evaluate such performance figures under actual project conditions.

The section is particularly relevant to developers, contractors, architects, property managers and public authorities looking for practical ways to improve energy efficiency and meet increasingly demanding sustainability standards.

Smart-building technology will also be highlighted elsewhere in Hong Kong during October. Visitors planning a multi-event sourcing trip can review China Expo Hub’s guide to the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair and Outdoor and Tech Light Expo 2026.

AI Recycling Supports the Circular Economy

Waste management and resource recovery will form another major component of the exhibition.

The From Waste to Worth theme will feature recycling, waste-treatment and circular-economy companies, including several large enterprises from mainland China. Technologies will include AI-assisted sorting systems, automated recycling stations and equipment designed to recover reusable materials from municipal and industrial waste.

Artificial intelligence can potentially improve sorting accuracy and reduce dependence on manual processing. However, commercial buyers should consider throughput, contamination rates, maintenance requirements and integration with existing collection systems when comparing solutions.

Packaging suppliers and food businesses seeking complementary waste-reduction technologies may also find relevant exhibitors at FPackAsia 2026, which covers fresh-food and catering packaging.

New ASEAN Pavilion Expands Regional Participation

Eco Expo Asia 2026 will feature 18 exhibition pavilions, including a new Qinghai Pavilion and a debut ASEAN Pavilion.

The ASEAN Pavilion is expected to host 13 environmental technology companies from eight countries:

  • Indonesia
  • Laos
  • Malaysia
  • Myanmar
  • the Philippines
  • Singapore
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam

Several of these markets are participating in the exhibition for the first time. Their presence should give buyers and project developers additional opportunities to identify technologies suited to Southeast Asia’s rapidly growing energy, infrastructure and waste-management sectors.

Mainland Chinese participation will include pavilions representing nine cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, together with Macao, Guangxi, Hunan, Shanghai and Nanjing. International participation will also include companies or delegations from Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, South Korea and the United States.

A new GoGlobal Connect Zone will help mainland environmental companies explore overseas markets and meet potential international partners.

Conferences Address Climate Finance and Extreme Weather

More than 30 forums and seminars involving over 80 government officials, researchers and business representatives are planned during the exhibition.

The flagship Eco Asia Conference will cover subjects including:

  • Extreme-weather monitoring and disaster preparedness
  • Green and energy-efficient buildings
  • Climate finance and sustainable investment
  • Environmental policy and regulation
  • Circular-economy business models
  • International green-technology cooperation

These sessions should provide useful policy and market context for companies evaluating environmental projects in Hong Kong, mainland China and Southeast Asia.

HKTDC Survey Signals Wider Corporate ESG Adoption

The fair is being held as more businesses report incorporating environmental, social and governance considerations into their operations.

According to the HKTDC ESG Index 2026, the index increased from 64.2 to 67.3. HKTDC also reported that 93% of surveyed companies had incorporated ESG practices into at least part of their operations, while the proportion sourcing or selling ESG-related products and services rose from 29% to 46%.

Respondents identified sustainable supply-chain platforms, AI-powered analytics and cloud-based reporting among the technologies with the greatest potential to support ESG implementation.

These figures reflect the responses collected in HKTDC’s survey and should not be interpreted as a measurement of the entire ESG market. Nevertheless, they suggest that traceability, certification and environmental reporting are becoming more relevant to corporate procurement decisions.

Public Day Opens the Fair to Hong Kong Residents

The final day, 29 October, will be designated as a Public Day with free admission. Organisers plan to offer environmental workshops, talks and activities designed to make sustainability topics accessible to the wider community.

Professional visitors can also use HKTDC’s Click2Match online business-matching platform from 19 October to 5 November, extending supplier discussions beyond the four-day physical exhibition.

October is one of Hong Kong’s busiest sourcing periods. International buyers can combine Eco Expo Asia with other technology, lighting and consumer-product exhibitions, including the Global Sources Hong Kong Shows 2026. Organisers are also arranging complimentary shuttle services between AsiaWorld-Expo, selected hotels, transport hubs and other exhibition venues.

Visitors should confirm opening hours, admission requirements and programme changes on the official Eco Expo Asia website before travelling.
