The Canton Fair is introducing a membership programme for overseas buyers at its 140th edition, adding loyalty points, permanent status levels and redeemable benefits to the sourcing event.
All registered overseas buyers will be enrolled in the Canton Fair Membership for Overseas Buyers automatically. No separate membership application or approval process is required.
The programme launches as the 140th Canton Fair prepares to welcome buyers to Guangzhou across three phases from October 15 to November 4, 2026. More than 220,000 overseas buyers from 197 countries and regions had already pre-registered by September 22.
Buyers earn points through Canton Fair activities
Members will earn points by interacting with the Canton Fair before, during and potentially between its physical sessions.
Activities identified by the organiser include:
- Completing overseas buyer pre-registration
- Attending the fair in person
- Updating buyer and company profiles
- Participating in designated Canton Fair activities
The points serve two separate purposes. They help buyers progress through four permanent membership tiers, beginning with CF New and culminating in CF Elite. Points can also be exchanged for rewards and practical services.
Redeeming points will not reduce the membership status a buyer has already achieved. This means buyers can spend their available points while retaining their attained tier and its long-term privileges.
The organiser describes this structure as an “earn once, benefit twice” model: the same activities contribute to both permanent status and redeemable rewards.
Rewards include transport, vouchers and buyer services
Depending on membership tier, available points and current offers, buyers may be able to exchange points for:
- Canton Fair souvenirs
- Local transport services
- Vouchers
- Value-added buyer services
- Other benefits announced through the membership platform
The programme’s official introduction does not yet provide a complete public table showing the point requirement for every tier or reward.
Buyers should therefore check their accounts for current earning rules, expiry conditions and redemption availability. Some rewards may be limited by session, location, inventory or membership level.
The lack of published thresholds makes it difficult to calculate the programme’s exact monetary value at launch. Its clearest initial advantage is that participation is automatic and does not require buyers to pay a membership fee or complete an additional application.
Frequent Canton Fair visitors should benefit most
The membership structure is particularly relevant to buyers who attend the Canton Fair repeatedly or participate in several phases.
Canton Fair Phase 1 runs from October 15–19 and focuses on advanced manufacturing, electronics, machinery, vehicles, new energy, lighting, hardware and tools.
Canton Fair Phase 2 takes place from October 23–27, covering housewares, furniture, building materials, ceramics, sanitary products, gifts and decorations.
Canton Fair Phase 3 follows from October 31 to November 4 and features fashion, textiles, healthcare, food, baby products, toys, personal care, sports and other consumer goods.
A buyer attending multiple phases may have more opportunities to accumulate points through attendance and event participation. The permanent tier system could also recognise companies that return to the fair over several years rather than treating every session as a separate relationship.
However, buyers should not attend unnecessary activities purely to earn points. Supplier relevance, meeting quality and sourcing results remain more valuable than loyalty rewards.
Airline partnerships add travel benefits
The Canton Fair has also expanded its partnerships with China Southern Airlines, Air China and Cathay Pacific.
The membership announcement says available travel benefits may include discounted airfares, priority baggage handling, additional baggage allowances and priority boarding.
These benefits should not be interpreted as universal entitlements on every flight. Availability will likely depend on the airline, route, booking channel, travel dates, fare type and promotional conditions.
Buyers should compare the final ticket price with other available fares before booking. A membership discount is only valuable when it produces a competitive total cost and suitable travel conditions.
Financial services target cross-border trade
A separate service expansion involves 11 financial institutions, including policy-oriented banks and insurance providers.
The initiative is intended to improve access to trade financing, risk-management resources and digital financial services for overseas buyers. Potentially relevant areas include cross-border payments, transaction financing, credit insurance and commercial risk management.
The announcement does not specify which products are available to buyers from each country or the eligibility requirements. Access may depend on the participating institution, transaction structure, buyer location, credit assessment and applicable financial regulations.
International buyers should compare any offered financing or insurance with independent alternatives and confirm interest rates, fees, currency exposure, coverage exclusions and contractual responsibilities.
How overseas buyers can join
Buyers can join by creating or using an overseas buyer account and registering for the fair through the official Canton Fair Buyer Service System.
The registration system also supports buyer badge applications, official invitation requests and exhibitor searches. Buyers should ensure their personal and company information is accurate because profile completion is one of the activities that may contribute membership points.
The new programme moves the Canton Fair closer to a continuing buyer platform rather than a relationship limited to two exhibition periods each year. It gives the organiser a way to recognise repeat participation while encouraging buyers to maintain profiles, attend activities and use more of its services.
For overseas buyers, the programme is worth activating because enrolment is automatic and free. Its long-term value will become clearer once the Canton Fair publishes detailed tier thresholds, redemption rules and a stable catalogue of benefits.
