The Food Expo, Beauty & Wellness Expo and Home Delights Expo, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), concluded successfully today, attracting over 520,000 public visits—a record high. The two trade fairs, Food Expo PRO and Hong Kong International Tea Fair, closed on 15 August. Together, the five fairs brought together over 1,850 exhibitors from more than 30 countries and regions, showcasing the latest trends in food, wellness, and home living.
Per capita spending at the public fairs continued to grow, reaching HK$1,685, reflecting the continued vibrancy of Hong Kong’s consumer market and strong public demand for gourmet food, healthy living, and quality home products. The trade exhibitions drew some 20,000 buyers from 64 countries and regions, including Chinese Mainland, Macao, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and ASEAN countries, reinforcing Hong Kong’s role as a food trading hub.
Health and wellness products in the spotlight
A random survey of over 1,430 visitors revealed that 87% of respondents spent in line with or exceeded their budget, with over 80% expressing interest in health and wellness-related products. The most sought-after categories included health and functional foods (62%), health supplements and nutritional products (51%), and mental and physical wellness products (40%). More than half of respondents (53%) believed that the halal food and beverage label helps promote halal products, while 51% noted the silver-age products and services showcased, indicating growth potential in these segments.
The fairs also featured themed days, product showcases, and interactive experiences, driving strong visitor traffic and sales. The Food Expo’s Gourmet Zone, featuring Hong Kong’s first chewy treats themed market, drew enthusiastic responses, with participating exhibitors expecting total sales of HK$1 million to HK$1.4 million. The Beauty & Wellness Expo introduced a “Stay Relax” zone, and the Home Delights Expo showcased smart home solutions and sleep technology, including a first-of-its-kind sleeping experiential project in Asia.
Mainland enterprises expand overseas via Hong Kong
The HKTDC actively assisted quality mainland food products in expanding overseas markets through the fourth consecutive year of the Chinese Mainland premium agricultural products “Going Global” exchange and matchmaking event. The event recorded intended transactions exceeding HK$1.8 billion, setting new records in industry participation and deal value. Memoranda of Understanding were signed between the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the HKSAR Government and representatives from Hunan, Xizang, and Shandong to strengthen cooperation.
The Xizang Pavilion made its debut, with Nagqu State-owned Capital Investment and Operation and Xizang Baqing Qizhen Industry signing an MoU with a Hong Kong importer, with an estimated annual cooperation value exceeding RMB100 million. Henan Yunong Youpin Operation Management, following participation in a Central Asia business delegation, connected with agricultural bodies in Kazakhstan and plans to establish an agricultural industrial park there. The company also connected with two wholesalers at the expo, targeting cooperation of RMB 10 million.
International participation and trade opportunities
The Korea Pavilion expanded by 40%, becoming the largest overseas pavilion with over 130 exhibitors. The HKTDC signed an MoU with the Korea Agro-fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, highlighting Hong Kong’s strategic importance as a springboard for entering the Greater Bay Area and Chinese Mainland markets. The halal food and beverage label, featured for the third consecutive year, attracted over 130 food suppliers. Local heritage brand Tai Po Chun Hing showcased halal-certified beef tendon balls and carbon-neutral beef balls, meeting over 20 buyers from the Philippines, Thailand, and the Middle East, with expected orders between HK$500,000 and HK$1 million.
The Food Science and Technology Zone featured innovative food technologies, including pet food solutions, drawing strong buyer interest. IXON Food Technology received enquiries from over 200 buyers, with potential business value estimated at US$500,000 to US$1.3 million. The Coffee Zone highlighted the growing coffee market, with first-time exhibitor Hawaii Coffee Association connecting with over 100 buyers. A seminar on ASEAN coffee origins and market trends was also held, underscoring Hong Kong’s role as a platform for international trade and investment.
